Because I wanna smack em upside the head
Can anyone guess the vehicle?

BMW.. something. I have seen that in an X5M before.

What do I win?

The one thing right are the directions for manual shifting. Everything else I don't understand.

You win a car with a idiotically designed shifter. No not really, that one belongs to a friends dad

I'll never forget having to repeatedly demonstrate to my mother how to use one of those in a rental X5.

Neither did I. I ended up texting a few people for instructions. But before heard back I figured it out. It's so dumb

cant be as bad as

What do you have to do? I've never used one, do you squeeze the button on the left then shift left then down for Drive?
And the chipped button on top is Park but you have to squeeze the button and put it in P first?

Rental X5?

I like it. It may be confusing at first, but it is actually very simple and elegant to use.

Another place (and there are more than a few) where BMW changed something just so they could, not because it was honestly demonstrably better. Disappointing.

Its not THAT bad. Look at these arm rests, i owned one like that, and its impossible to engage 2nd 4th and reverse, with the arm rest down.

at least they got the manual/sequential layout the right way

What? I think it's pretty intuitive and easy to use. That being said, I haven't driven many autotragics in my life.

I would like to add this little button to the bitch fest. Thank you for listening.

This is why Dodge's rotary shifter is the next paradigm shift in automatic shifting shifters

Does a family member of yours have an x5? Did you parents recently buy it?

I agree.

my mother enjoys going to the avis counter at our local airport the night before a trip, and negotiates for a rental. She has managed to get: 3 BMW X5's, an X3, a 328i, Volvo XC60, Chevy Tahoe LTZ, Loaded Ford Expedition, and many more all for the price of a compact.

Whoa that's pretty awesome. I don't know what it is but moms just have this inate ability to haggle and get exactly what they want.
![]() 02/07/2015 at 11:49 |

Exactly, we always go, and walk through the Avis lot, and pick out exactly which car we want to rent, then we go in, and she spends 30 or so minutes negotiating, until she is at a price that she finds reasonable.

It belongs to a friend's dad. I was helping her move so I got to drive it for about 5 minutes

Holy hell I had never seen a BMW shifter so beat to crap.

Well BMW's wackiness doesn't stop at that shifter Denver (can that be called a shifter?). Go and check out how to prepare one of their M5's for acceleration testing....
It would be easier to learn chess and go to a tournament and win it!

Those are stupid. Is that one of the ones where you have to push it forward to go forward (drive) and backward for reverse? And no actual park, just a parking brake?

yup, thats the one
